The Ontario early learning and child care community is celebrating as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announces extensions to the $10aDay agreements with 11 provinces including an agreement-in-principle with Ontario. Our community raised our voices about how important the $10aDay program is for families and communities and how important it is that the sector has stability and security in funding. We know the transformative potential the $10aDay system holds for early childhood educators and staff, and we know it is a program that will benefit our economy and society.
Thank you to the Ontario government for listening to the thousands of Ontarians who made it clear that the $10aDay child care system is here to stay. By agreeing to the agreement extension, which includes a new $16.77 billion dollar commitment to ELCC in Ontario, we can continue to make system-building a success. Now Ontario and the federal government must finalize the deal.
Send a message today to tell Premier Ford and Prime Minister Carney to finalize the deal.
Thank you to our community, the child care operators, ECEs, staff and families who sent messages to the Ontario government encouraging them to sign on to extend the $10aDay agreement. Within 48 hours more than 200 child care organizations endorsed our Open Letter and nearly 2000 individual parents, educators and supporters sent emails to Premier Ford. Your voice matters and together, we can continue pushing to build the system that Ontario deserves – with affordable fees, decent work and pay, and enough spaces for all.
