On November 24th and 25th, OCBCC staff, members and allies attended the Child Care for All Summit 2.0, hosted by Oxfam Canada and Child Care Now in Ottawa.
This two-day summit offered “space for deep conversation, collaboration, and learning, with a focus on the intersectional barriers faced by those historically excluded from Canada’s formal child care systems — including Black, racialized, immigrant and refugee families, gender-diverse parents, parents with disabilities, and parents of children with disabilities”.
OCBCC’s members attending the Summit included representation from member child care centres, the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario, CUPE, OSSTF, and Parents for Child Care. The OCBCC’s Policy Coordinator, Carolyn Ferns, spoke on a panel about the State of Child Care in Canada.
On the second day of the Summit participants took part in a Hill Day, meeting with MPs and Senators about strengthening and expanding the $10aDay child care plan. Thank you to all the dedicated advocates who took part, and to Oxfam and Child Care Now for hosting this extraordinary event.
