Parents for Child Care Update
We just had our first Parents for Child Care meeting and wanted to make sure you’re up to date on what happened and how you can get involved! Over 50 parents participated, showing just how strong and organized we are. Together, we’re building a movement to fight for affordable, accessible, and high-quality child care for all!
Key Takeaways from the Meeting
✅ Sunnyside parents won their fight! Sunnyside Day Care was forced to reverse its 150% fee hike and opt back into CWELCC. Families who pulled out due to the fee hikes are now fighting to get a space back.
✅ Child care workers at LEF successfully formed a union! Parents continue to support these workers after a devastating wage cut in the fall. Send an email to call on LEF to reverse wage cuts for child care workers.
✅ Families are struggling with waitlists & lack of spaces—the system urgently needs expansion of nonprofit and public child care.
✅ Parents in Scarborough, Parry Sound & beyond are raising their voices about child care deserts.
✅ Upcoming elections are a key moment for parents to get organized and make our voices heard.
We discussed next steps. We’re going to keep growing this network by inviting other parents to sign up here. Ask your local candidates these questions about child care issues during the provincial election. We’ll also be hosting an info session for parents before the federal election (more info below).
Parent Info Session: $10aDay Child Care & the Federal Election
📅 When: March 26, 2025 | 8:00 PM – 9:15 PM
📍 Where: Online (Zoom link will be sent upon RSVP)
With a federal election on the horizon, parents understandably have questions about the future of the $10aDay child care program. While the program has been transformative for many families, the Conservative party has not committed to keeping it.
This info session will break down:
✅ The impact of $10aDay child care so far
✅ What’s at stake in the upcoming election
✅ How parents can demand clear answers from candidates
Will you be able to join us?
Thank you for being part of this movement. Let’s keep organizing!
