Recap: May 14 Parents for Child Care Organizing Meeting

Parents for Child Care Update

Thank you to everyone who came out to the meeting on May 14. The turnout was amazing and we had important conversations about our next steps to fight for $10aDay child care for all!

Here’s what happened:

  • We heard from parents from all over the province, including parents who are concerned about wait lists, who are relying on fee reductions, and who want fair wages and working conditions for child care workers.
  • We received an update on the political landscape. While the new Prime Minister has promised to continue the $10aDay program, the Ontario government has yet to sign an agreement with the Federal government. Tell the provincial government to sign the deal here.
  • We discussed how parents want to get involved. One thing is clear – our next step in the fight for $10aDay child care is connecting with more parents and communicating our concerns to our elected officials.

Here’s what’s next:

  • Meet with your MPP. Organize a meeting with your MPP to let them know why protecting and expanding $10aDay child care is important to you.
  • Join an in-person meet-up. We’re hosting in-person parent meet-ups this summer to grow our collective voices to advocate for accessible and affordable childcare. Interested in hosting or attending a meet-up? Let us know! You can send an email to parents@childcareontario.org.
  • RSVP for media training. Parents for Child Care has had great success with getting media coverage so far and we want to keep that momentum going. That’s why we’re hosting a media training workshop on November 13 at 8PM. Sign up here.

We’ll be taking the summer to focus on MPP meetings, in-person meet-ups, and building skills. Our next organizing meeting will be October 1 @ 8PM. RSVP to save the date here!

In solidarity,

Anna
