Parents for Child Care Update
“There’s a new voice in the fight for affordable child care in Ontario – families who say they have experienced first-hand how $10aDay child care can be life-changing, so they want it expanded so every family has access.” – Global News
Thanks for your support of Parents for Child Care! We launched this new group last Wednesday, when parents came together at Queen’s Park to show our support for the $10aDay child care plan and call for it to be improved and expanded. Since then over 100 families like yours have joined us. Let’s keep building!

Child care is one of the only costs that has gone down in recent years – the fee reductions have been transformative for many families. We can’t afford to backtrack on this progress, but much work remains to be done. Too many parents are dealing with the stress of waitlists and child care deserts.
Parents for Child Care in the news!

Our calls for the federal and provincial governments to work together to fully fund $10aDay child care and decent pay got covered in the news. Check it out:
- Global News video: Parents want $10aDay child care expanded
- The Trillium: Parents call on province to stop ‘playing politics’ and implement wage grid for child-care sector
Here in Ontario, we called on the provincial government to focus on what we know works: a real plan to create new public and non-profit spaces and commit to a wage grid that delivers at least least $25 per hour for all child care workers and $30 per hour for all Registered Early Childhood Educators.
It’s frustrating that the province continues to push for more for-profit centres, even as these centres opt-out or threaten to opt-out of the $10aDay plan – causing chaos and forcing parents to deal with the stress of massive fee increases. Read more:
Phone zap for $10aDay & Decent Pay

As part of the Ten Days of Action for $10aDay Child Care, Parents for Child Care is joining with Justice for Workers for our very first Phone Zap for $10aDay & Decent Pay!. Join us as we call politicians to say quality child care means a commitment to decent work. Thousands of new spaces still need to be created so that the $10aDay plan becomes a reality for all families. It won’t be possible without a commitment to decent pay for child care workers!
At twenty-four centres across Toronto run by the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF), child care workers faced wage cuts of $2.32/hour on September 1. You can join me in showing support for these workers by sending an email telling LEF to reverse the wage cuts.
