Parents for Child Care Update

It’s the middle of summer and families across Ontario are still waiting for the Ford government to secure the future of affordable child care. An agreement in principle to extend $10-a-Day child care was announced back in March, but it has still not been signed

With current funding set to expire in Spring 2026, families could lose access to affordable child care. We can’t let this happen. That’s why I’m speaking out to call for immediate action from the Ford government.

In July, alongside Angela (another local parent), I met with my MPP Peter Tabuns. We shared why affordable child care matters to our families and asked for his help in getting the $10-a-Day child care deal signed. He agreed to send Minister of Education Paul Calandra a letter urging him to work swiftly with the federal government to finalize the agreement.

Can you meet with your MPP as well? Parents for Child Care is trying to organize as many MPP meetings across the province as we can before the legislature opens again on October 20.

We have created an MPP Meeting Tip Sheet with all the information you need to prepare for the meeting. If you can reach out to your MPP and book a meeting, that would be amazing. After the meeting, send us a photo and update about how it went!

If you have any questions or need support with your MPP meeting, please reach out to us at parentsforchildcare@gmail.com.

Best,

Lyndsay MacKay
